A History of Tanat Valley Coaches & Motors - a family business.

1972 saw the completion of Peter’s apprenticeship and after a gap period of three months visiting relatives in Canada, he came back home to take on the challenges of the business. Needless to say Elvin welcomed Peters return home and entry into the business very quickly creating him a fully fledged partner.

Peter’s inclusion now offered a new dimension to the services that the newly renamed R.E.Morris & Son business could offer. His qualification as a mechanic as well as a newly qualified psv driver offered further opportunities. Very quickly the Pentrefelin garage became very busy with customer cars needing Peter’s attention. The extra licence holder meant that the bus and coach business could be expanded and so two other vehicle were bought a 41seater service bus – YTH 1 and a 45seater Duple Viceroy coach LAW 110 both of course Bedfords and both diesel! Soon after these two acquisitions DOB was converted by Peter to diesel.

1977 and Michael returns home to take his place in the family firm.

1979 and the now R.E.Morris and Sons buys Tanat Valley Motors a highly successful local garage and fuel station with an Austin Rover franchise. It was at this time that it was decided that the business adopt the Tanat name and so R.E.Morris & Sons became Tanat Valley Motors & Coaches.

The move from Pentrefelin to Tanat took about five years with Peter moving immediately into the new premises and taking on the responsibility of the franchise and newly formed mot station, whilst Michael remained at Pentrefelin operating the expanding coach and bus business. The fuel stations were eventually combined into the one service outlet at Tanat thus bringing an end to 50 years of retail fuel dispensing from Pentrefelin.
